Earlier this year, in a New York Times article discussing satellite radio and its struggle to turn profits, it talked about whether or not Howard Stern leaving terrestrial radio for satellite was a good idea….

Jay Leno weighed in on the discussion, and went so far as to say “He’s lost his social relevance,” due to the fact that only his hard core fans migrated to satellite to hear him, while he lost millions of part time listeners who caught his crude, lude, ultra frank message each morning on their drive to work. Some people loathed the guy, but millions adored him, including my mom!

Do you remember this guy, the Howard of old, who rocked our societies sensibilities, and cut through corporate censorship one blow at a time? This visit to Leno in 1995 is an example of what Howard was all about, when Howard Stern was in his prime and was turning heads like a cleaner version of Marilyn Mansion, with an intellectual spin. As you can see, Jay Leno’s accepted norms were violated throughout the interview, which Stern was going for.
