A Symbolic Image.
You might have been for the Iraq war. You might have been against it. Regardless, this image should make everyone feel good. For 35 years, elections were held in Iraq. Sham elections, where Saddam would take 99% of the vote and his cronies in Parliament should Cheer. This week, Iraqi’s actually have a chance to vote in another round of local election…1/3 of candidates are women!...

When Not Smoking Crack........
Amy Winehouse likes to play Scarabble. On her extended vacation, the UK Sun reports that she randomly joined two guest who were playing scrabble and sat down, let loose, and offered her vocabulary expertise. Impressive.

Here Comes Uncle Sam's Econ Police.
According to the NYT- “Last Thursday, Senators Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, and Richard Shelby, Republican of Alabama, who are both influential members of the Senate Banking Committee, introduced legislation to provide $110 million to hire 500 new F.B.I. agents, 50 new assistant United States attorneys and 100 new S.E.C. enforcement officials to crack down on such...

Bernard Madoff Victim of the Day
The laudable NY Post revealed yet another big wig client of Bernie Madoff’s that has lost million(s). Today’s Loser- Larry King Live. “A perfectly placed source said the host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” lost “over $1 million with Madoff. It was a lot of money.” King’s spokesman, Howard Rubenstein, declined to comment. “ I always...

Investing in the America's Future?
With $850 billion dollars to spread around, it seems like just about everyone could get a ride with Obama’s stimulus package which is scheduled for a vote tomorrow. One group that looks to receive an unexpected vast sum of support is American schools. This bill would more than double the current federal budget for education which has been milked dry by the Bush administration. States like...

Movie Pick of the Day
I watched this documentary on Netflix tonight, and it was a true joy to watch. The lead up to the actual walk from World Trace Center 1 to WTC2 was exhilarating and the historical footage and use of interviews of actual participants was outstanding. If you have Netflix, this is a fun add to your que, a light hearted documentary I would suggest to anyone who enjoys the wonders of life.

Authentic Howard.
Anyone who really knows me knows that during my senior year in high school, My political fire was really lit. The person responsible for the lighting was former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, an inspiring and passionate public servant who often gets in trouble for saying what he believes. Not being a beltway insider, he’s less privvy to the dishonest operating procedures that dominate...

Beckham To Desert US of A?
David Beckham is currently on loan to the Euro giant AC Milan from his current MSL team the LA Galaxy. They were crazy to let him dabble back in the EURO world, a world he once owned. Money is money, and when someone has already amassed a fortune, more money doesn’t really change a thing. Would Beckham rather play in a half empty silent stadium in southern Los Angles, full of mediocre...

Follow The Promises
This is an interesting website, and its really the first site to carry over on factcheck.org style coverage that strives for real accountability. Over two years of campaigning, Obama told different crowds different things, often times things they wanted to hear. Any follower of politics knows that primary style campaigning forces candidates to pander to different groups of people and due to the...

The Benefits of Being Prez
From Rollingstone.com When Barack Obama moved into the White House on January 20th, he gained access to five chefs, a private bowling alley — and a killer collection of classic LPs. Stored in the basement of the executive mansion is the official White House Record Library: several hundred LPs that include landmark albums in rock (Led Zeppelin IV, the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed), punk...

A New Niche in the Japanese Book Market
How can we jump start the international economies of the world? Sell Obama books and other assorted merchandise. In Japan, Obama has bread a new market entirely based on his speeches. A 95 page book of translated speeches has been put together and is now topping Japan’s Amazon website. The producers of the book who are wisely cashing in on Obama’s world wide popularity told...

So So Bizarre.....
Over 50 years after Auschwitz was liberated by Allied forces, interesting legacies of barbarism live on……in Brazil. What did Nazi Doctor of Death Josef Mengele do once out of Germany? Did his eugenic plans continue? Creepy Read.

Castro= Commie Sellout
A new photo of Fidel Castro was released today, two months after Cubans caught a glimpse of their revolutionary leader meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao. In this photo, Castro is meeting with Argentina’s President, wearing a casual Adidas track jacket. I’ve noticed this trend…..all photos have Fidel out of his green military fatigues, and in comfortable Adidas...

Facebook Status: Dead
This adds to the Facebook/Myspace death headlines. This time isn’t not a 40 year old mom taunting a 12 year old to suicide. This time, It’s a Facebook relationship status that led to murder. Two Brits were married. They took a temporary break to see if time off could heal a bumpy few months, and over that time it seems that love was lost. The female changed her Facebook relationship...

The Next Senator From NYS- K.G
She’s known for being a down to earth centrist. Coming from an aging and economically volatile district near Albany, NY, Kirsten Gillibrand governed more as a delegate than as a trustee. This NYT write up does a better service in explaining what she is all about and who she is. My only personal experience with Gillibrand is not so pretty. Kirsten, back when she was a lowly...

Global What?
An extremely credible Pew Research Poll was taken, and the results are not too surprising…..But what ranks last on the poll is the most bizarre……Since gas prices have dropped, so has the intense lobbying to confront global warming. Its symbolic of how short sighted American’s can be. Hopefully SUV sales don’t begin to rise, that would be the ultimate assault against...

A Dash of Hope Comes From Mexico
The New York Times……What would informed poeple do without it? Clearly online blogs and other news type organizations are changing the face of journalism, but it is correspondents on the front lines in places like Islamabad, Baghdad, Berlin, and Tokyo, who bring the news to the blogs so they can munch it, swallow it, and regurgitate their partisan forms of “news” The NYT,...

A Feeling I Think I Could Get Used to
For the last six years, since becoming a contributing member to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), I’ve got nothing but urgent cries for action or in their case money. With a President who violates the tennets of the constitution on a daily basis, a group that fights to uphold the founding document of our nation had their hands full to say the least, and had to pay droves of lawyers...

I Witnessed History.
Many in Washington Camped out all night in the 13 degree weather, blocking out the numbing cold with the thought of what was to come. At 4:30 am, the DC Metro trains were nearly jammed to capacity. From Seattle, Tampa, and Ukraine they came, among other far off locales, in hopes of catching a moment of American History- history many thought would never come.  Fairbanks Johnson of Fort Myers,...

PGK BLOG HITS THE ROAD: Obama's Inaugural!
It’s 1:14 am, and I’m about to hit the road, DC bound. I like midnight runs. When I was a little kid, me and my siblings would spend time in NYC at my dads house and to avoid rush hour traffic we would leave late. He called the trips “midnight runs,” and I remember getting really excited for the drives. Anyhow, It will be nice to be back in Washington. Not only do I get...

Well, as most economists have predicted, China has once again moved up the economic ladder, this time over taking Germany for the number three largest Economy in the world. Mr.Paterson...What's Going On?
This is from 538.COM “If he were going to name Caroline Kennedy to the Senate, wouldn’t it have happened already? People have made the comparison to Sarah Palin, but this feels more Harriet Miers-ish, as in the longer someone is left out there hanging, the more manifest the problems with their credentials, and the less likely they’ll get appointed because of inertia alone....

An Autocrat of All Trades
Good Old Vlad Putin, a true Oligarch Killah’, shows off his artistic side. In an attempt to raise money for his cities (St.Petersburg) cultural art fund, Putin decided on Boxing day that among other high end Russian Celebs, he too would donate an original authoritarian piece of art. I though maybe he could decorate some 22 caliber bullets or maybe a hand grenade, but instead he took to...
